Puno, the capital of Peruvian folklore, is one of the cities you must visit on your next trip. It is located in the southeast of Peru, on the shore of the majestic Lake Titicaca. For most of the year, it has a semi-dry and regularly cold climate due to its altitude and location. But that should not be an excuse not to visit this cozy city. There is no time to lose! The first thing you can do is to visit Sillustani, a pre-Inca cemetery that you will like for its history. You can visit it on the day of your arrival on route from the airport. Here, you will be able to appreciate the tombs, or “Chullpas” that are 12 meter tall, breath fresh air, and enjoy the beauty of Lake Umayo.

To get to the island of Uros, you can choose to go by boat or kayak, a ride that takes approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive, one of the local families will welcome you and tell you more about their customs, lifestyle and how that island was built. You can also take a ride in their totora boats, also known as “Mercedes Benz of Uros”.
Then, visit the island of Taquile, located 1 hour and 15 minutes from Uros. Upon arrival, you will learn about the lifestyle of its local communities, in which their clothing, religious rituals and pre-Inca and Inca archeology predominate. Something that you should try at lunchtime is the iconic fried trout accompanied by local potatoes, while enjoying the wonderful view of Lake Titicaca.
