Puno

This city is home of Lake Titicaca, the largest navigable lake in the world. The legend says that the children of the Sun, Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo, emerged from its waters to civilize the masses, venerate the Sun God and found the mighty Inca Empire.
The lake is a Natural Heritage of Peru where you can find floating totora islands (Uros, Taquile and Amantaní, among others), history and ancestral culture.

Likewise, there are various Archaeological Complexes such as Cutimbo, the most important funeral center in the south of Peru, and the Sillustani Archaeological Complex, also known as Chulpas de Sillustani, an ancient cemetery linked to funeral rituals of the Inca, Colla and Tiahuanaco cultures.
What calls a lot of attention to tourists are its traditional dances, costumes, music and popular art. These can be appreciated in February during the Candelaria festival, and in many other festivities that are celebrated in nearby neighborhoods and communities.
If you want to try a typical Puno dish, don't miss the fried trout, which you can serve with rice, fries or boiled potatoes, head broth, sancochado, chairo, or a substantial Chupe de Quinoa.
