The most beautiful southern coast

Chucuito, one of the 13 provinces that form the department of Puno, was the tax center during colonial times.It is located to the south of the city, about 15 kilometers on the road towards the border of Desaguadero, and in it can be appreciatec a rich archeology that goes back up to a thousand years before Christ, although it has been confirmed traces of ancient societies hunters and gatherers with an antiquity of more than 10,000 years.There are also outstanding churches from the earliest times of the Colony and a nature formed by bays and sandy beaches in which some operators offer mountain biking experiences.

Useful tips
  • In Chucuito there can be visited the Missionary Cross, the Solar Clock constructed in Huamanga’s stone and the Dominican church of July, capital of the province.
  • One of the most popular attractions is the Temple called Dongs or Inca Uyo, a ceremonial center dedicated to fertility formed by a set of stones with form of the virile member.
  • Every Sunday there is a fair which offers agricultural products and crafts. Admission is free.
