What are the Pan American Games?
The Pan American Games are the largest interdisciplinary sports event in America. The first Pan American Games carried out in 1951 and, since then, they are held every four years and one year before the Olympic Games.
On this occasion, a total of 6680 athletes of 41 nationalities will meet in Lima to participate in 62 disciplines of 39 different sports. All of them have the same goal: to take a place on the longed-for podium of the Pan American Games, a gateway to the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
When are the 2019 Pan American Games?
The 2019 Pan American Games will take place in the city of Lima between July 26 and August 11. But the party does not end here! When the 2019 Pan American Games come to an end, the city will continue to receive elite athletes, this time to celebrate the 2019 Parapan American Games, which will take place from August 23 to September 1.
This great sporting event will be in every corner of our capital. A total of 20 venues spread out from Callao to Paracas will be the scene of sports as varied as badminton, fencing, water skiing and rhythmic gymnastics, among others.
Why are the Pan American 2019 held in Lima?
Lima was elected by more than 50% of the votes in 2013 in Toronto, where the last Pan American Games were celebrated. Thus, our capital beat the other three cities that submitted their candidacy: Santiago de Chile, La Punta (Argentina) and Ciudad Bolivar (Venezuela).
Since then, our city has not stopped working to welcome and receive the athletes who will be part of this event and the people of the five continents who will come to enjoy the show.
