Sacsayhuaman is a Stone fortress located at the top of Cusco, about 3 kilometers from Cusco´s main square. It is located next to a large esplanade and has great views of the city and the vilcanota mountain range. Sacsayhuamán is formed by three stone walls, some of them of enormous proportions in a larger set of structures that forms plazas, amphitheaters, water channels, tower, warehouses, etc. It has a military and religious function, as a ceremonial center dedicated to the sun. Nowadays on June 24th, is where the inti raymi, or the sun god festival is celebrated. The most important holiday in Cusco, where thousands of people, locals and foreigners, get together to celebrate.
