What to see in Cusco in one day

Hundreds of tourists arrive in Cusco every day with the intention of visiting the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Many of them barely spend a whole day in the city, so they have only a few hours to explore its streets and get to know the most touristic places. If this is your case, and you are about to visit Cusco, here we tell you what to see and what to do in one day.

San Pedro market

Nothing better to start the day than visiting the San Pedro market. This place is perfect to try the most varied fruit juices, from the most traditional (orange, strawberry…) to the most exotic and local of Peru (passion fruit, papaya, tuna …). In addition, there are other stands that sell crafts, where you will find several souvenirs to take home.

Main Square – Plaza de Armas

Once you recharge your batteries in the San Pedro market, the best place to start your tour in the imperial city is the Main Square or Plaza de Armas, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in all of Peru. Here you can not miss the Cathedral and the Church of the Company of Jesus, two great examples of the architecture of the Spanish conquerors in Cusco where, in addition, you can see the paintings of great mestizo artists.

The twelve angled stone

Just two blocks away from the Plaza de Armas is the famous Stone of 12 angles. This large rock is part of an Inca wall that still remains intact. It surprises every tourist who comes to Cusco because it has 12 angles that fit perfectly with the stones that surround it.

Qorikancha

The temple of Qorikancha is impressive because it is the clear example of the transition of the Spaniards through Peru. Before the arrival of the conquerors, this temple was formed by huge Inca walls covered by gold plates. When Pizarro and company saw this, they soon dismantled it, destroyed it and created their own convent on the remains of the temple.

Nowadays this place is known as the Convent of Santo Domingo and in it you can still see the remains of some Inca walls, which can sure take you hundreds of years ago.

San Blas neighborhood

San Blas is considered the patron of the artisans in Cusco, that is why his was used to baptize the neighborhood of the imperial city in which the artists congregate. Here you will find a wide variety of handicrafts and, in addition, a viewpoint in which you will enjoy the best sunset over the city.
