Visit the Mamacocha Lake in Arequipa

The Mamacocha Lake is located in the district of Ayo, province of Castilla in Arequipa. It is also known as “The hidden treasure of Ayer”. It harbors a variety of birds and fish and its overflow gives birth to the river of the same name.

If you want to visit this place, you have to options to get there. The first one is by truck through a dirt road. But if you consider yourself and adventure person, and you are physical active, you can also trek to this famous treasure of Ayo.

Before your arrival, you can make a shortstop and visit the third highest snow mountain in Peru: The Coropuna Mountain. The trail is path through the arid dessert of the Valley of the Volcanoes, where along the way you can see diverse species of flora and fauna such as the cactus and otters from the Pacific.

One of the most important activities you can practice here is diving. The green and crystalline waters of the lake will let you enjoy and afternoon of tranquility and surprise you with the beautiful landscapes that surrounds it.
