Our country is undoubtedly one of the best destinations for trekking lovers. From lagoons of crystalline waters to mountains of more than 6000 meters of altitude, rambling in Peru will take you through endless dreamed places.
If you want to test your resistance and fall in love with the most exciting corners of our country, you can not miss these trekkings.
Laguna 69: a great melting of water and snow
In the way from Lima to Trujillo is located Huaraz, a paradise for trekking lovers. Among all the different routes offered by the impressive Cordillera Blanca, we can highlight the Laguna 69, a day hike of high demand due to its height: it reaches 4600 meters above sea level.
The route has no waste: you will go through immense plains, cross rivers, observe waterfalls and climb mountains until reaching your goal, a turquoise lagoon surrounded by snow. Although the road is hard the reward is incredible!
Choquequirao: discover the most remote Inca Citadel
Although Machu Picchu is the Inca Citadel globally known, the legacy left by this culture in Peru goes beyond our Wonder of the World. If you like long treks and great adventures, you have to visit Choquequirao, an Inca citadel just as impressive as Machu Picchu but with a big difference: you can only reach it by walking.
The tour begins in Cachora, province of Abancay, and it lasts at least four days (round trip). You will have to descend from 3200 to 1800 meters above sea level, to go back up to 3200 and explore the discovered part of Choquequirao (it is estimated that 60% of it is still hidden under nature). Only 25 people arrive here every day, so you’ll be practically alone in this magical place!
Iquitos: a walk in the middle of the night through the Peruvian jungle
For those who are looking for something more exciting than demanding, we recommend a walk through the deepest Amazon. The lodgings of the Iquitos jungle, which are in the middle of nature and without any access to technology, offer different walks around the Amazon.
Among them we highlight the nocturnal walks: with only a light in the head you will go across the depth of the jungle, surrounded by noises of unknown animals and mysterious movements. Any sound will make your hair stand on end! Would you dare with this trek?
Gocta: a visit to one of the largest waterfalls in the world
The immense waterfall of Gocta, with 771 meters of fall, is one of the great natural destinations of our jungle. Although it can be seen several kilometers away, we recommend you to take the fascinating route that takes you to the point where the water meets the ground.
It is a trekking of 12 km round trip in which you will cross the lush nature of the jungle and you will be able to spot endemic birds such as the cock of the rocks. After two and a half hours of a fairly moderate walk you will reach the base of the waterfall. Here, you only have to open your eyes and enjoy this wonder of nature.
Arequipa: explore the depths of the Colca Canyon
If you plan to visit Arequipa and have two or three days available, do not hesitate: do the trekking to the depths of the Colca Canyon. You will start the adventure at the highest point of the Colca, where you can observe the flight of the condor, the king of the Andean skies.
During the way down the canyon, you will cross small villages, see spectacular fauna and flora and bath in relaxing thermal waters. And once you arrive to the deepest part of the Colca, you will live one of the best experiences of the trip: a night under the mantle of millions of stars and surrounded by the majesty of the Andes.
