Approximately halfway of the trip that links Arequipa with Colca Canyon is the National Reserve Salinas and Agua Blanca, which has an extension of approximately 370 thousand hectares taken as an aim for the conservation of the vicuña, that this puna preserves and feeds to a lot of communities and the city of Arequipa itself.
The Plaza de Armas, one of the largest and most beautiful of Peru, is the center of the city and where most of the social life happens for locals and visitors of Arequipa.
In the Colca Valley can be found two nationalities clearly identified by their hats. The Collaguas, natives of origin Aymara, live in the high parts of the valley dedicated to raise camels and sheep, their hats are white decorated with colored sequins and made of a hard material.
The Colca Valley is one of the great destinations to practice extreme sports, including mountain bike. Most of the activities offered in Chivay are related to condors bird watching and the canyon.
